Community Guidelines
Last updated: 13 June 2026
CommonGround works because people are genuinely good to each other.
The spirit of CommonGround
These guidelines are the floor — the minimum. The ceiling is the kind of community we can build together. Be the neighbour you'd want next door.
You must not
- Harass, threaten, intimidate or abuse any member — online or in person.
- Discriminate against anyone based on age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexuality, or any other characteristic.
- Stalk, follow, or make unwanted contact with a member who has not responded or has asked you to stop.
- Impersonate another member, organisation or public figure.
- Post false, misleading or fraudulent listings or requests.
- Share another member's personal information without their consent (doxxing).
- Use CommonGround for commercial advertising or business promotion.
- Post content that is sexual, violent, hateful or illegal.
- Make false safety reports — this wastes resources and could harm innocent members.
- Attempt to manipulate trust tiers, Kindness balances or area visibility through dishonest means.
- Use multiple accounts.
Posting content
- Be honest about what you're offering and what you need.
- Don't promise what you can't deliver.
- If something changes, communicate early — don't just disappear.
- Materials costs must be agreed upfront — don't surprise people.
In-person meetings
- Meet new people in public first.
- Tell someone where you're going.
- Trust your instincts — you can always cancel.
- The confirmation selfie and code word exist for everyone's safety — use them.
Reporting
If something concerns you, report it. Don't retaliate. Don't escalate. Report and let the moderation team handle it. False reports made in bad faith are themselves a breach of these guidelines.
Consequences
Breaches are handled through our three-strike system. Serious breaches result in immediate removal. All decisions can be appealed.
